Tell us a little bit about yourself?

As the Colourful Creations Photography founder and principal photographer I use the warmth of natural light in outdoor settings to capture people at their best.

Most clients describe me as a friendly and intuitive photographer, and my friends agree, but they might also say I’m a little obsessed with work sometimes too! I’m passionate about photography because it allows me to meet new people and allow them to trust the process and feel comfortable in front of the camera, all while creating a positive and meaningful experience (and of course some beautiful photos too!). Most weekends you’ll find me either out taking photos on location or at a Zumba class, and on special days I might treat myself to cookies and cream ice-cream or booking my next interstate trip!

Tell us about Colourful Creations Photography and how it came to be?

My wedding and portrait photography style is emotive, colourful and classic. I enjoy giving couples photos to enjoy and display in their home for years to come. There really is nothing more beautiful than a wedding – the tears, the laughter, the love… I want to be there to capture it all!

My photography journey started in college. I spent the majority of my time either in the Art room or the Photography darkroom, processing film the old school way. I fell in love with photography, so it was an easy decision to study a Bachelor of Design (Photography) Degree at the Canberra Institute of Technology for three years. From there I met my first mentor, a teacher of mine and very successful wedding and portrait photographer who invited me to work for her as an assistant. She later introduced me to another successful wedding photographer who I worked for first as an assistant and then as a main shooter. As the years went on I gradually pursued and took on more wedding photography work through my own business.

Immediately after graduating from my course, Victoria’s Models (whom I already worked for as a model) were looking for an agency photographer to shoot their model portfolios. The timing was perfect – I put up my hand for the role and never looked back. I bring my own experience working as a model to my role as a photographer for Victoria’s Models, to ensure you have a positive and fun experience and want to do it all again!

How can we support Colourful Creations Photography?

The best way to support my photography business is to book a portrait session with me! Get in touch and we can start planning to capture those beautiful relationships in your life! Photoshoots with me are relaxed and fun, resulting in beautiful, natural, vibrant photos for display in your home.

Any advice for those wanting to turn their dream into a reality?

Layne Beachly wasn’t born a surfer, and J.K Rowling wasn’t born a writer, but that’s what they wanted to be so that’s what they became. When you are pursuing something new try repeating ‘I Am’ statements to yourself. Eg. I Am A Dancer. It helps me to believe that I can become whatever I want to be, no matter what my previous experience level is.

You are allowed to be both a masterpiece and a work in progress, simultaneously. Learn from each project you do, both your mistakes and your triumphs. Stay true to your style – you don’t have to be good at everything. For example, a marathon runner doesn’t also need to be a sprinter!

Say yes to what lights you up, and be unapologetic in saying no to what doesn’t. Your clients will respect that and appreciate your unique style. Think of who you are as a person and that will help you to understand and communicate your style to others. Your work is a form of self expression after all!
